After completing the process of collecting and processing statistical data, we are pleased to conclude that, according to all relevant indicators, the year 2024 will go down in the history of Trebinje’s tourism as the best and most successful year since tourist traffic has been measured.
According to data available to our institution, last year, Trebinje recorded an impressive 230,710 registered overnight stays by tourists, representing a 14.74% increase compared to the previous record-breaking year, 2023.
The number of registered overnight stays by domestic tourists in 2024 amounted to 59,745, or approximately 26% of the total recorded stays, while the number of registered overnight stays by international tourists reached 170,965, accounting for about 74% of the total.
The highest number of international overnight stays was recorded by tourists from Serbia (approximately 51%), followed by Turkey (17%), Montenegro (7%), Croatia (3%), China (3%), and Greece (2%).
As in previous years, Trebinje welcomed both group and individual travelers from all parts of the world. In 2024, the Tourist Information Center hosted 20,137 visitors from 74 countries. The majority of these visitors came from Serbia, Montenegro, Italy, China, France, and Germany, among others.
Tourists most frequently visited Trebinje’s most recognizable and popular sites, including monasteries, churches, monuments, the Old Town – Kastel (with its mosques), the Herzegovina Museum, and the Perović (Arslanagić) Bridge. Additionally, local wineries, as well as restaurants and taverns offering national cuisine, experienced great success thanks to an exceptional influx of visitors.
A record number of visits was recorded at the City of the Sun sports and tourist complex, which significantly enriched and expanded Trebinje’s tourist offerings through new attractions and the organization of numerous popular events and activities. This played a major role in the overall increase in tourist visits and overnight stays in Trebinje.
Statistical data, as well as direct field reports, indicate that an increasing number of businesses and individuals have engaged in the tourism sector, either directly or indirectly, by registering their services. This has led to greater competition, ultimately improving the quality of services offered to visitors.
All indicators clearly confirm that 2024 can be characterized as the most successful year for Trebinje’s tourism. The tourism sector continues to grow at a significant rate, positioning Trebinje as one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations. Its remarkable results have substantially contributed to the overall increase in tourism traffic recorded in both the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
