At that time, Trebinje was situated along a caravan route connecting Kotor and Dubrovnik with Bosnia, Serbia, and Montenegro. The oldest material evidence bearing the inscription \"Trebinje\" was found on the tombstone of \u017dupan Grd from the second half of the 12th century, discovered in the Police neighborhood of Trebinje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town began to take on urban characteristics during the Middle Ages. Initially part of a Byzantine archontia, it later became the center of the state of Travunia, which was incorporated into the Nemanji\u0107 dynasty's realm until the 14th century. From the early medieval period, Trebinje developed under strong Byzantine influence until the 15th century, when it fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire for several centuries. Afterward, from the late 19th century until 1918, Trebinje was under Austro-Hungarian rule.\nDuring the Middle Ages, Trebinje was ruled by the Nemanji\u0107 dynasty for nearly 200 years, followed by the reign of Tvrtko Kotromani\u0107. Between 1377 and 1466, it was part of the Bosnian Banate, governed by the Kosa\u010da noble family. From 1466 to 1878, Trebinje remained under Ottoman rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each of these historical periods and ruling powers left their mark on the region\u2019s culture, traditions, and architectural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Geographical Location<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trebinje is located in the southernmost part of the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, serving as the hinterland of the southern Adriatic coast, specifically the Dubrovnik-Herceg Novi Riviera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city covers an area of 904 km\u00b2, making it a medium-sized municipality within the Republic of Srpska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trebinje shares borders with: Bile\u0107a Municipality to the north, Ljubinje Municipality to the northwest, Ravno Municipality (Federation of BiH) to the south and southwest, Dubrovnik Municipality (Croatia) and Herceg Novi Municipality (Montenegro) to the south and southeast, Nik\u0161i\u0107 Municipality (Montenegro) to the east.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Climate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trebinje enjoys a Mediterranean (modified continental) climate, with an impressive 260 sunny days per year, giving the region and its people a warm and welcoming character. This favorable climate supports the cultivation of grapes, early fruits, and vegetables, which enrich the Herzegovinian culinary tradition and its appeal as a tourist destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The climate is characterized by: Low humidity and cloud cover, Strong air currents, Winter rainfall,\nWarm summers, A uniquely warmer autumn compared to spring.
